The extended aerial variant of SEVEN and SEVEN LiTE has been designed for improving cellular coverage in areas where there is limited 4G/3G network coverage.
SMA Connector for an External Aerial
The ‘X’ base units have a SMA female connector so an external aerial can be connected to it to improve the ability to connect to the cellular network.
Aerial Options
Ensure the aerial that you select works on all frequencies that your Telecommunications provider uses. There are different types of indoor and outdoor SMA connector aerials that can be used with the SEVEN-X base units:
- Direct Connect
- Cable Connect
- Outside Wall or Pole Mount
- Magnetic Mount
Chiptech Approved Aerials
Indoor Aerial
Use this aerial inside a home where there is poor
cellular coverage. This aerial works best up in a high
place which has better cellular coverage, with the base
unit still being at an accessible height. The magnetic
mount makes it easy to install on most metal surfaces.
Outdoor Aerial
Great for use in extremely poor cellular range areas. This aerial can be mounted on the roof of the house or on a pole. This aerial requires a cable to be purchased separately to connect between the base unit and the aerial.
How to Attach the Aerial
Attach the external aerial directly or with a coax cable to the SMA connector, which is located on the back panel of SEVEN-X.
This only needs to be tightened to finger tight force.
When the extended aerial is connected, turn the SEVEN-X base unit on and check the cellular connection strength by pressing the Connect button.
Do I need an External Aerial Base Unit?
If you find there is “Poor” or no coverage and the related Telecommunications provider map indicates there should be some coverage at the installation site, we recommend installing a SEVEN with an extended aerial; SEVEN-X or SEVEN LiTE Dual-X, or SEVEN LiTE-X.
FAQ
SEVEN-X base units have no internal cellular antennas and MUST have an external cellular aerial fitted to the SMA connector to communicate over the cellular network.
A standard SEVEN base unit cannot be converted to work with an extended aerial, an X variant can be ordered with your company’s specific settings.
Yes, ensure the external aerial works on the following cellular bands: B1-2100MHz, B3-1800MHz, B8-900MHz, B5-850MHz and B28-700MHz. If you have any questions, please contact Chiptech with the specifications so we can check it is suitable.
