The Local Disconnect Device is connected to additional telephone connections in a house to disconnect phone equipment plugged through it, to allow emergency activations to be sent to the monitoring station. It is only activated when emergency alerts need to be sent, not test calls.
The Local Disconnect Device is commonly used when people forget to hang up their phone properly or regularly use Dial-up Internet. All Chiptech base units already have disconnect technology built into them, so equipment plugged through their supplied phone lead will disconnect when alerts are sent.
