The Pearl Advanced personal help button from Chiptech was designed with sustainability in mind. One of the key serviceable aspects of this device is the ability for Chiptech to replace the internal battery, which typically lasts around two years. When the battery capacity drops to 20%, the device alerts the service provider, ensuring timely replacements, and the ability to return the Pearl Advanced to the Chiptech servicing department.  

In addition to the battery, the device’s case is also replaced. After these replacements, each unit undergoes rigorous retesting through Chiptech’s quality processes. This ensures the device’s reliability and optimal performance, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for repurchasing a new device. 

Battery servicing is particularly beneficial as it not only restores the device’s functionality but also contributes to environmental sustainability. By replacing the battery instead of disposing of the entire device, electronic waste is significantly reduced. This process aligns with global efforts to minimise our environmental impact and promotes a circular economy.

Service Process for Pearl Advanced Devices

To ensure the longevity and reliability of the Pearl Advanced devices, Chiptech recommends the following return process for servicing: 

  1. Collection from the Field: 
    • Service providers collect devices due for battery replacement or case repair. 
    • Attachments pieces such as chains are removed, these can be cleaned up by your own team.  
    • Devices are securely packaged in lots (to reduce shipping costs) and labelled for return.  
    • A Returns Form is completed and included indicating the number being sent, and if you want a ‘Full Service’ i.e. all attachment pieces refitted and you are charged for the additions, or a ‘Standard Service’ where the Pearl Advanced device only is returned.
  2. Shipping to Chiptech:
    • Devices are sent to Chiptech; attention the ‘Servicing Team’ using a tracked shipping method to prevent loss in transit. 
  3. Receiving and Initial Inspection: 
    • Upon arrival, Chiptech logs each device into their system. 
    • An initial inspection is conducted to assess the condition and identify any immediate issues. If there is an issue with the PCB then the product will be written off as unable to be serviced. 
  4. Battery Replacement and Case Repair:
    • The internal battery is replaced with a new, high-quality battery.
    • The device’s case is replaced, and the new laser mark applied.  
  5. Retesting:
    • Each device undergoes rigorous retesting to ensure it meets Chiptech’s quality standards. 
    • Functional tests and quality checks are performed to guarantee reliability and performance. 
  6. Quality Assurance:
    • Devices are subjected to final quality assurance inspection. 
    • Documentation of the servicing and testing is updated in Chiptech’s records. 
  7. Return to Service:
    • Serviced Pearl Advanced are securely packaged for return. 
    • Devices are shipped back to the service provider using a reliable shipping method. 
  8. Reintegration into Service:
    • Service providers receive the refurbished devices and these are added back into stock holdings.  
    • Pearl Advanced are ready for learning into base units in the field wherever a Fall Detector is needed.
